As a student in Stanford UniversityÕs CS341: Project in Mining Massive Datasets class taught by a Walmart representative, you will be asked to perform data analytics and research on certain data related to Walmart store and online transaction data (ÒWalmart dataÓ).  The Walmart data provided to you will not personally identify any Walmart customer.  You are granted access to the Walmart data for research purposes only and may publish results in a summarized form at academic conferences and journals, subject to the license terms set forth below.

Permitted Uses

By accessing or otherwise using the Walmart data, you agree to be bound by the terms of this License.  If you do not agree, do not access or use the Walmart data.  The Walmart data is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws and is licensed not sold.

1.     You may use the Walmart data any non-commercial purpose, subject to the restrictions in this   License.  Some purposes which can be non-commercial are teaching, academic research, public demonstrations and personal experimentation. 
2.     You may not use the Walmart data or any derivative works in any form for commercial purposes. Examples of commercial purposes would be running business operations, licensing, leasing, or selling the Walmart data, distributing the Walmart data for use with commercial products, using the Walmart data in the creation or use of commercial products or any other activity which purpose is to procure a commercial gain to you or others.

3.     Any publication of results derived from your use of the Walmart data may not express or imply endorsement by Walmart. Publications must acknowledge that the source of the data is Walmart Stores, Inc.  You must send a copy of all publications to Anand Rajaraman.

4.     You may not attempt to de-anonymize the Walmart data or associate any of the Walmart data with personally identifying information.

5.     Walmart provides no assurance of the correctness of the Walmart data or the validity of results derived.

6.     THE WALMART DATA IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITH NO WARRANTIES. THIS MEANS NO EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY WARRANTY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ANY WARRANTY AGAINST INTERFERENCE WITH YOUR ENJOYMENT OF THE WALMART DATA OR ANY WARRANTY OF TITLE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. THERE IS NO WARRANTY THAT THE WALMART DATA WILL FULFILL ANY OF YOUR PARTICULAR PURPOSES OR NEEDS. 
7.     NEITHER WALMART OR ITS AFFILIATES WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES RELATED TO THE WALMART DATA OR THIS LICENSE, INCLUDING DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT THE LAW PERMITS, NO MATTER WHAT LEGAL THEORY IT IS BASED ON. 
8.     Walmart has no duty of reasonable care or lack of negligence, and we are not obligated to provide technical support for the Walmart data.
9.     All rights to the Walmart data not expressly granted to you in this License are reserved.
10.  This License shall be construed and controlled by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflicts of law.  If any provision of this License shall be deemed unenforceable or contrary to law, the rest of this License shall remain in full effect and interpreted in an enforceable manner that most nearly captures the intent of the original language.
