Mining Massive Data Sets
Winter 2013
The course will discuss data mining and machine learning algorithms for analyzing very large amounts of data. The emphasis will be on Map Reduce as a tool for creating parallel algorithms that can process very large amounts of data.

- 1/8: There will be 3 optional recitation sessions for CS 246 this year. They will cover basic materials on MapReduce/Hadoop, Probability and Linear Algebra. The respective recitations will be held on Thurs. 1/10, 5:15-6:30pm (MapReduce), Thurs. 1/17, 5:15-6:30pm (Probability), Fri. 1/18, 5:15-6:30pm (Linear Algebra) in Thornton 102, Thornton Center (Terman Annex).

- 1/29: The Gradiance quiz on Dimensionality Reduction and Clustering has been released. Due 2/5 at 23:59.
- 1/31: The earlier alternate final exam time and location has been decided. It will be on 3/19 in 320-105 from 6:00-9:00pm.

- 2/21: The Final Exam will be held on 3/22 from 12:15-3:15pm in CEMEX Auditorium.
- 2/26: The Alternate Final Exam will be held 3/19 from 6:00-9:00pm in 320-105.
- 3/03: The Gradiance quiz on Data Streams has been released. Due 3/9 at 23:59.
- 3/08: The last Gradiance quiz on Computational Advertising has been released. Due 3/16 at 23:59.
